Our Commitment to Sustainability
At Yatton House, we believe that caring for people goes hand-in-hand with caring for the planet. As a small charity supporting adults with learning disabilities, we are proud to be making meaningful strides toward a more sustainable future—both in our building and in our everyday practices.
Building Enhancements for a Greener Future
As part of our ongoing refurbishment programme, we’ve made significant upgrades to our centre to improve energy efficiency and reduce our environmental impact:
- Improved Wall and Roof Insulation: Helping us retain heat in winter and stay cool in summer, reducing energy usage.
- New PVC Doors and Windows: Designed to be more thermally efficient and secure.
- Upgraded Heating Systems: Our mechanical heating has been modernised for better efficiency and lower emissions.
- LED Lighting Throughout: Energy-saving lighting that lasts longer and consumes less power.
These changes not only reduce our carbon footprint but also create a more comfortable and welcoming environment for the people we support.
Everyday Environmental Practices
Sustainability is woven into our daily routines. We’re committed to making small changes that add up to a big difference:
- Reduced Printing: We’ve moved toward digital communication wherever possible to cut down on paper waste.
- Recycling Stations: Clearly marked bins throughout the centre encourage recycling and reduce landfill waste.
- Awareness Displays: Educational posters and interactive boards help raise awareness among staff, volunteers, and visitors.
- Organic Gardening: We grow our own fruits and vegetables in our garden—completely free from pesticides and chemicals.
- Water Conservation: mindful water harvesting.
